All of our team members of the Institute of Esthetic Dentistry have something special to bring to our group. Being good at what you do is of paramount importance. Each one is an artist in their own right. But, being proficient is not enough - each must have the right combination of experience and charisma. That means that we have confidence in our vast collective experience as a team. And, quite simply, we are a bunch of nice people that genuinely care for our patients and we are well liked by the folks we serve.
There is a difference between cosmetic dentistry and esthetic dentistry. A cosmetic dentist can place dental veneers, porcelain laminates, or do teeth whitening strictly for making the teeth and smile beautiful. Cosmetic dentistry is elective and the teeth are restored solely for the purpose of improving the smile.
Esthetic dentistry, on the other hand, involves restoring teeth that have decay or replacing old dental restorations. Esthetic dentists use beautiful ceramic materials and tooth colored fillings to build their crowns, bridges, or restorations. Esthetic dentistry is done for health reasons and not just beauty alone. Esthetic dentistry is restorative dentistry made into an art form.
An oral surgeon performs many types of surgeries in the oral cavity and regions around the face. A common procedure is extraction of wisdom teeth (3rd molars) which are impacted, semi-impacted, or erupted. The oral surgeon extracts teeth, fixes fractured jawbones and acts as a consultant for pathological conditions. The oral surgeon is certified in general anesthesia and can put people under IV sedation (or put to sleep) for the procedures.
An orthodontist is a specialist in teeth alignment. Braces or clear aligners (Invisalign ™) are used to straighten teeth over a prescribed period.
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. A metal anchor resembling a screw is inserted into the jaw bone and will hold a crown, bridge, denture, or partial in place of the missing teeth.
Endodontists are specialists in root canal treatments. They can treat teeth that have become abscessed or have a painful, diseased nerve.
A periodontist is a specialist in gum disease treatments. They can do surgical procedures on the jawbones and gums (gingiva) or place dental implants where teeth must be extracted.
